SALVIA
Law enforcement in Fort Bragg has recently come across a substance called Salvia which has the potential to be mistaken for marijuana. Salvia is a green plant originating in the Sierra Mazteca region of southern Mexico. The leaves of the Salvia plant can be smoked and are known to cause hallucinogenic effects. The onset of a reaction to Salvia is beteen 20 to 60 seconds and the total effects last between 15 and 20 minutes.
Salvia is legal in California and may be possessed by persons at the age of 18. It is a misdemeanor for anyone under the age of 18 to be in possession of Salvia. It is making its appearance in our community and may be confused with marijuana at first glance based on ints similarity in appearance and its dry state.
