Suggestions To Make 2010 Crime Free

Here are some easy New Year’s Resolutions you can accomplish to help make Alhambra “Crime Free” –

. . Check your home for security weaknesses – Is shrubbery trimmed around your doors and windows and do your doors and windows have good security locks?  Do you lock up before your leave?  Remember, the Crime Prevention Office is available to answer any questions you may have and can help you conduct your security servey.  Call 626-570-5177.

.  .  Do not allow strangers into your home or backyard.  Distraction burglars usually visit Alhambra after the Holidays.  They will tell you they are a service man, contractor, water company employee, even a neighbor.  If you don’t know them, tell them to go away!

. . Check your house numbers – Can they be easily seen and read from the curb?  If not, install new house numbers with 4-inch characters on a high contrast background so they stand out in an emergency.

. . Make sure your street and home are well lighted – Lighting is inexpensive and a very effective tool to discourage criminals.

. . Re-vitalize your Neighborhood Watch group – Keep your “Watch” group a vital force in your neighborhood.  Organize a meeting to get everybody “back on track,” and to discuss current safety issues.  The Crime Prevention Office will provide you with a speaker and everything you need for a successful meeting.  Call 626-570-5177.

. . Immediately call the  Alhambra Police Department when you observe suspicious persons and activity in your neighborhood – DIAL 9-1-1 IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY; otherwise, dial 626-570-5151.

. . Clean-up the neighborhood! – Graffiti, litter, abandoned cars, and run down buildings tell criminals you don’t care about where y ou live or your neighbors.  Make a list of your concerns.  The Crime Prevention Office and the Community Oriented Policing Section will provide you with the assistance and city services needed to make your neighborhood a nicer place to live.  Call 626-570-5177.

. . Consider having a burglar alarm installed in your home Homes with burglar alarms are the least likely targets for burglars!

. . Don’t commit yourself to purchases or charitable donations over the phone – Ask the caller to mail he information to you so you can make an informed decision.

. . Avoid places and situations that could invite crime – Places like isolated ATM machines, poorly lighted parking lots, etc.

. . Take part in the Alhambra Citizens Police Academy – The Citizens Police Academy is an informative, fun and exciting eleven-week program that will introduce you to the functins and day-to-day operations of the Alhambra Police Department.  Call the Crime Prevention Office – 626-570-5177 – for information on how you can join the next session.
