“Safety Is Fun” – Join Us For Alhambra’s Night Out Against Crime, August 4

Help us spread the word!  No need to cook dinner and plan your evening entertainment on Tuesday, August 4th.  With the help of the East Alhambra Little Leaguers and Target Stores, Inc., we have everything you and your neighbors need to have a great summer evening out!  Just come to the Almansor Park Baseball Fields on August 4 (6 p.m. to 9 p.m.) to celebrate National Night Out Against Crime with us! Learn about the family safety programs sponsored by the Alhambra Police Department and then help cheer on Alhambra's All Star Little Leaguers as they take on Alhambra's Police Officers in a "friendly" and exciting game of baseball like you have never seen before.  The snack bar will be open and volunteers will be selling hotdogs and snacks to help you watch the game. (All proceeds from the snack bar will benefit Alhambra youth sports and we promise hotdogs and snacks will be much less expensive than what you pay at Dodger Stadium!)

Baseball, food, and fun – can this summer evening get better?  The answer is “YES, it can!” by adding your family and neighbors into the festivities! Consider making this a really special evening by gathering up your neighbors and walking, or caravaning, to Almansor Park! (If you would like to have Alhambra Night Out announcements to distribute to your neighbors, call or email the Crime Prevention Office.  They’re free!)   When you arrive be sure to check-in! We have some fabulous prizes for our new and long-time Neighborhood Watchers to win in a free raffle drawing.  All you have to do is sign-up or be a current Neighborhood Watch member for your chance to win!  Oh and don’t forget to bring the kids because there will be special treats and prizes for them, too!

Can’t wait to see YOU on August 4!

Alhambra Crime Scene

The most troublesome crime for the month of June was “459 Auto” – that’s cop speak for “car burglary”. The northeast part of the city seemed to have the most occurrences.  It didn’t matter that the car doors were locked and windows were rolled up, or that the car was in a residential area or even in the victim’s own driveway. These crimes of opportunity occurred most often when valuables were left visible inside a vehicle.  Property stolen from these cars included laptops, GPS devices, cash/coin, personal documents, jewelry, and everything else that can be sold or pawned off for a few bucks.  Consider this a friendly reminder to keep things hidden from view – the best thing to do is to keep the valuables that must travel with you locked in the trunk when leaving your car parked and unattended.

Summertime Reminders

  • The Alhambra Police Department offers vacation house check (VHC) services.  If you are planning to leave your house vacant for a few days or weeks, you can request this service by filling out a VHC form.  The VHC form is available at the police department. It is also available on-line as a .pdf document at:   http://www.cityofalhambra.org/government/police_department/downloads/VacationHouseCheck.pdf .  You can send your completed VHC form by fax to (626) 308-4841.  The VHC form can also be completed over the phone, Monday thru Thursday, by calling the Crime Prevention Office at (626) 570-5177.
  • Residential burglaries have a tendency to occur more frequently during the summer months. Check to make sure that all your doors and windows are completely closed and locked when you leave your home or apartment unattended – even for a few minutes.

  • Applications are available at the Alhambra Police Department for the Fall session of the Citizens Police Academy. If you would like an application sent to you, call the Crime Prevention Office.
