ELECTRONIC CRIME AND INCIDENT REPORT DATA NOW AVAILABE ONLINE

The Adair Village, Aumsville, Aurora, Dallas, Gervais, Independence, Keizer, Lincoln City, Monmouth, Salem, Stayon and Turner police departments are pleased to announce a new crime notification service available to the community.

Called CrimeReports.com, area law enforcement agencies have partnered together to share web and email-based crime information.  Citizens can access their own neighborhood crime information for free, empowering them to make informed decisions to help improve the safety of their families, friends, property and the community at large.

www.CrimeReports.com was created to help law enforcement agencies put crime data in the hands of citizens. While crime statistics for a specific area may be available, they may not be easily accessible.

www.CrimeReports.com standardizes the way law enforcement agencies communicate crime data to the public, down to the specific neighborhood or block they live on.

Participating law enforcement agencies publish local crime incident data daily to www.CrimeReports.com, converting raw crime data into easily accessible information for the community. www.CrimeReports.com helps citizens understand their surroundings and make informed decisions to protect themselves. It helps raise awareness and create stronger community policing programs that improve the connection between law enforcement and the public.  An informed citizen is a safer citizen.

A www.CrimeReports.com user simply enters an address of interest (home, office, school, etc.) and clicks on "Get Report" to see criminal and other activity in a given area on an easy to use map interface.  The web application integrates data from multiple agencies into a single interface and offers automated, location-based alerting services.

Citizens may register for the service by visiting www.crimereports.com any time to view crime incident reports for a participating jurisdiction. Based on the type of data available, citizens can also sign up to receive daily, weekly or monthly email alerts regarding criminal activity and police dispatch calls for service in their neighborhoods.  The only information users need to create an account is a valid address and an email address.

Law enforcement agencies remove victim identification as part of the data publishing process. In addition, victim identities are protected by converting the exact street addresses to the "block level."

www.CrimeReports.com categorizes crime incidents into general crime type categories including homicide, sex offenses, robbery, assault, breaking and entering, theft, theft from vehicles, property crimes, weapon offenses, family offenses, liquor violations, kidnapping, missing persons and traffic crashes.
