Neighborhood Watch Upcoming Events

  • Thursday, February 11, 2010.     The Alhambra Police Department is hosting a fundraiser to benefit the American Cancer Society Relay for Life at Shakey’s Pizza, 2200 W. Valley Blvd., Alhambra, from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.  Bring your family, friends, and neighbors and join us in a pizza feast to honor those fighting this disease!

  • Tuesday, February 23, 2010.  Everyone is invited to the Annual Alhambra Neighborhood Watch Block Captains Meeting on Tuesday, February 23, 2010, 6:30PM, at the Alhambra Public Library.   This year’s topics include a crime review of 2009, current crime trends and prevention techniques, new avenues of communication for neighborhood watch groups, and information on the 2010 Census. We look forward to seeing you there!

Now On Facebook, The Alhambra Police Department

Well We Did It!  In addition to Nixle.com and the Alhambra Police Department web pages at “cityofalhambra.org”, the Alhambra Police Department now has a Facebook page available for your viewing.  Facebook gives us the opportunity to send you timely crime alerts and neighborhood watch notifications. It also helps us to disseminate crime prevention information and police department news in an efficient and cost effective manner.

If you already have a Facebook account, all you need to do is log-in to Facebook and search for “Alhambra Police Department”.  You do not need to be a “fan” to see our page however, if you would like to make comments you will need to become an Alhambra Police Department “fan”.   Keep in mind that your “fan” postings/messages/discussions, will be posted on the page for viewing by everyone else.

If you do not have a Facebook account, you will need to sign-up for Facebook at Facebook.com.  It is free and simple to do so.  I realize some of you may have reservations about joining social networking sites such as Facebook.  As long as you are careful, limit your “personal information” on your profile through the “privacy settings”, and only allow the “friends” you designate to view your page, you should not have any problems.  (So far so good for my personal Facebook page!).

If you have any questions about this service, please feel free to e-mail me at swilliams@alhambrapd.org, or call me at (626) 570-5177.

The Crime Scene – January 2010

  • Car break-in’s dominated the January 2010 crime stats. This appears to be a citywide crime trend with thieves targeting cell phones, purses, backpacks, cash, lap-tops, and GPS devices.  When possible, remove all items of value from your vehicle when you leave it unattended.

  • Residential burglaries went a tick upward in January with twenty-two (22) reported crimes.  Methods of entry included burglars walking in through unlocked sliding glass doors and through open windows.  Remember to close and lock ALL doors and windows when you leave your home unattended.

  • We had a fair number of “strong armed” robberies in Alhambra since January 1, 2010.  The good news is that several subjects were arrested for committing these crimes.  Robbers are successful when they are able to surprise their victims – please be alert to your surroundings when you are out and about.
